Reliance Jio website goes live; offers network trial registrations
In a move pointing towards an imminent launch of it’s 4G services, the official website of Reliance Jio is now live. The company has also started registrations for network trials.
All these signs point to a commercial launch of reliance’s much touted LTE services very soon. Mukesh Ambani had earlier announced that Reliance Jio would commercially launch its 4G LTE services in the second half of 2016. Presently, Reliance Jio’s 4G services are only available to around 120,000 of reliance’s employees, their families, friends and business partners.
The website, Jio.com, highlights the key features of reliance’s upcoming 4G services, including a multitude of applications such as MyJio, JioChat, JioPlay, JioOnDemand, JioMags, JioXpressNews, JioDrive, JioJoin, JioBeats, JioMoney, and JioSecurity. The site has no mention of data plans and tarrifs currently and has a a registration form at the bottom for people interested in trying out the 4G services ahead of the commercial launch.
What is interesting is Reliance Jio’s app ecosystem offering a variety of content services.The central hub is the MyJio app, which lets users easily install all of the Jio applications on their smartphones.
The JioSecurity app offers antivirus and find my phone services for Android smartphones.
JioChat is an instant messaging app like WhatsApp and Hike which lets users send text messages as well as make voice and video calls with up to 5 users at a time. Like most other applications in this category, it supports Emojis and Stickers.
JioPlay allows users to watch live TV channels on their smartphones as well as see what’s playing via a TV Guide, while JioBeats is a music streaming service in the same vein as Gaana or Saavn, with a library of millions of songs in over 20 different languages.
Further, JioOnDemand offers access to TV shows, movies and trailers across various genres and languages.
JioMag seeks to compete with the likes of Magzter and Google Newstand and offers a variety of magazines such as Business World, Filmfare and India Today.
The JioNewsXpress app curates news from a multitude of sources such as blogs, websites and news publications across 10 different languages.
JioDrive aims to enter the crowded cloud storage space, offering cloud storage services to users.
There’s a digital wallet as well in the form of the JioMoney app, which allows for cashless payments at partner outlets circa Apple Pay, as well as the ability to transfer money to other users and pay mobile, insurance and utility bills.
Finally, JioJoin is a video chat application like FaceTime or Skype that allows users to make HD voice and video calls using the Jio network.
