Facebook Lite adds support for video, multiple photo uploads and more
Facebook Lite has reached 100 million monthly active users in less than nine months ever since it has been launched, which makes it the fastest-growing version of Facebook to hit that milestone. India features among the Top 5 countries to use Facebook Lite.
The company has also shared that Facebook Lite now supports more than 50 languages. For those unaware, Facebook Lite as an app is smaller than 1 MB, and has rolled out in more than 150 countries through Latin America, Asia, Africa and parts of Europe. As of now, Facebook Lite is only supported on Android with an objective of make it easier for people to access Facebook on older phones or slower connections.
Apart from announcing the milestone, Facebook has also announced the addition of new features for Facebook Lite including support for video, multiple photo uploads, pinch-to-zoom for photos, emojis, and more.
We have tried the option of multiple photos on Facebook Lite using a 2G connection and we will have to say that it works quite seamlessly. In the course of time, we shall be trying out the other new features as well and see how it scores.
While talking to TechRadar India, Vijay Shankar, Product Manager, FB Lite told that going forward the company will be looking at making the video experience on FB Lite even better. Another focus area for FB Lite will be to improve Newsfeed and Images on the app.
In addition to this, he also shared that FB Lite was made keeping in mind older devices that have limited storage but they are also seen a lot of people use this app on high-end smartphones as well. Keeping this in mind, they would be looking at improving the experience of FB Lite on these phones as they go along.
